Engagement Party Ideas

The question was popped and the answer was "yes". Congratulations! You're getting married! Let the celebrations begin. One of the first party's leading up to your wedding may be an engagement party. There are no rules for an engagement party- it can be as fancy or casual as you'd like! Think of it as a fun way to announce and celebrate your plans to get married and kickoff the wedding festivities that are to come.

Recently, I helped plan my friend's engagement party with the rest of the bridesmaids and the bride's family. Her wedding colors are going to be yellow and gray so we wanted to show off those colors for the engagement party and add some fun personal touches! Since the party was thrown in the summer, we decided a summertime barbeque would be perfect.

We started with some simple yet elegant centerpieces. Jars filled with lemons were perfect for summer and to match the color scheme. We placed white daisies inside to finish off the look!
The food was served buffet style which is a great idea for a casual summer engagement party. It allowed guests to come and go as they pleased. We incorporated the pineapple design into the buffet to bring in a few pops of yellow and as a plus, pineapple is a wonderful summertime treat!
Something as subtle as cute "We're Engaged" napkins add a personal touch to the day and tie into the design and yellow and gray theme.
We grabbed this idea from Pinterest and it was a huge hit. Instead of tubs filled with ice and having to fish to the bottom to get a drink, we filled yellow and gray balloons with water and froze them! They added some color to an unexpected place and kept drinks cold and saved everyone from having to get their hands all wet while choosing their drink of choice!
The cake was a simple design with the couple's names in- you guessed it!- yellow and gray hearts and a cute chevron design wrapped around the cake. As an extra dessert, we dipped pretzels in chocolate and adding sprinkles in colors to match the shower.
It was a great day and I'm so excited for my best friend's wedding!! When planning an engagement party, I would say the biggest thing to consider is the couple. You want to make sure that the party is "them" and sets the tone for the celebrations that are to come!
