It is by far the most important aspect of your wedding day (no I’m not talking about the man standing at the end of the aisle), I’m talking about THE DRESS. No matter what your budget or style, the main thing most brides consider is the dress’s unique factor. You want your guests’ jaws to drop when they see you walking down that aisle – not thinking that your dress looks like a twin or sibling of the dress the bride wore at the last wedding they went to.
Take a look at some of the things that make gowns unique and some new trends this season to help inspire your look. Nothing is out of the question when it comes to wedding dresses – just as long as you feel yourself in it and it makes you feel beautiful.
Color
It wasn’t until Queen Victoria’s wedding in 1840 that white was dubbed the traditional wedding dress color – so don’t hold yourself down to just white. If you want to stick with traditional, choose a white dress but don’t be afraid to add colored accents, whether in a sash, ribbon around the waist, shoes or jewelry.Find these dresses here. |
Tea Length
This wedding season, tea length dresses made a major comeback. Though they once were a thing of the past, or often worn by older brides looking for a simplistic look, this retro look is back with an elegant touch. No more fussing with trains or bustling, these dresses are ready for the ceremony and reception.

Long Sleeved
All eyes were on Kate Middleton as she stepped out of the car and into Westminster Abbey during the Royal Wedding. To some people’s surprise, Kate took the classic royal look and opted for a long-sleeved dress, and since the wedding, the trend has been booming.

Style
Bows, flowers, sparkles and lace – OH MY! With so many different features added to wedding gowns, there are bound to be gowns that stand out above the rest. Whether their cut, embroidery, detailing or overall designs, here are a few gown styles in my opinion that stood out above the rest.

Design Your Own
If you can’t find the exact right dress that screams “you”, you could always opt for designing your own. Write down features you did like in other dresses you tried on, and features you didn’t like as well. Also, see if mom or grandma have their old dresses and if they can be used to help make your gown. You may not want to wear their exact gown, but you could reinvent it as your own, making it new but also with a personal and classic touch.
