Weddings by Color {Yellow & Gray}

Even though at times it may seem as if a couple has hit a gray area, just remember the sun will shine on eventually! To emphasize a strong relationship between two people, a gray and yellow color palette may be the answer for your wedding. Yellow is a bold color, while a shade of gray brings a modern touch. While these colors may stand out, they also come together, maintaining a sense of grace and style.

Many may say that this color palette may not look good together but there are many appealing ideas that you can use to bring these colors to life.

Embracing gray and yellow in all aspects of your stationery can be classy, retro, and/or elegant.

Even though yellow may appear loud, just adding a small touch can make all the difference. This gray and yellow wedding postage stamp will start your guests' experience to your special day.

Taking a look at your bridal party and spreading yellow and gray throughout is a way to keep this color palette alive and fresh. Bridesmaids could wear yellow dresses and use gray in their accessories and flower bouquets, or they wear gray dresses with touches of yellow in their bouquets and yellow accessories. This will send a striking look against whatever color of white your bridal gown is.

Every detail counts! From head to toe, details need to be captured. Simple and sweet accessories for the smallest member of your bridal party to the shoes you may be wearing create a charming look.

Your wedding flowers will be one of the most photographed details- besides you and and your partner of course! Selecting bouquets and centerpieces that fit your wedding style is very important. Gray and yellow can be kept modern or you could choose to go for a softer, more elegant look. Incorporating bright lemons in your bouquet will add visual interest and a fresh scent that none of your guests will expect.

Many tiny details in this color scheme can make a huge impact. In the photo on the left, each place setting could have a handmade pinwheel with each guests name displayed at their seat. In the photo on the right, succulent plants make great favors for guests but can double as escort cards to save you money and carry your color scheme further.

Whether you choose classic round or modern square wedding cake to complement your wedding day style, the colors of yellow and gray have endless possibilities to match the style perfectly!

Paper straws are perfect for every occasion! Choose a signature cocktail that is yellow in color- like a spiked lemonade!- and top it off with an adorable straw to complete the look.

Adding props to your wedding photography can help your personality shine while adding a unique style to your photo shoot. Something as minor as an ampersand prop to hold between the bride and groom, can tie in your color palette.

No matter what style and color palette you decide on, there are a plethora of ideas that can help incorporate those colors throughout your entire wedding day.

Teaser Tuesday

Lana and Nick were married in a gorgeous outdoor ceremony at Glen Foerd Mansion this past Sunday. The bridal party was stunning with the ladies in beautiful coral dresses and the guys in Vera Wang suits. The couple shared a romantic first dance, which was sung by one of the bridesmaids. Everyone was excited to head into the dining room for dinner, especially since their escort cards were cake pops! After dinner, the party danced the night away to the tunes spun by Mike from Synergetic Sounds, in the conservatory and there was another surprise song sung by the bride's niece. You could feel the love in the room as these two families came together to celebrate.

Entertaining the Kids

Deciding to invite kids or teens to your wedding can often be a big decision. You want them to feel included and enjoy the day but sometimes it can be a chore for the parents to keep them entertained. Here are a couple of ideas to help keep your little guests entertained during your reception.

Kids Table/Centerpiece
Most likely you will have all the kids sit together during the reception so you should make it a fun place for them. Instead of having a floral centerpiece or candles (not a good idea for young, curious kids!), replace it with a fun child-friendly centerpiece. For example, fill plastic containers with activities and supplies for them to use throughout the evening. Fill a clear plastic jar with glow sticks or stickers. These things will keep the kids entertained throughout the night. Another fun idea is to have a fruit or cookie bouquet for the kid's table centerpiece. Ask your venue if they have any kid size tables and chairs for your little guests. Kids will feel special with their own special furniture for the event.

Activity Bags
Instead of giving your young guests the same favors as adults, create an activity bag for them. These bags can include anything! Coloring books and crayons, stickers, glow sticks, bubbles, little plastic toys, bracelets, activity books like Mad Libs or I Spy Cards, etc. There are a ton of wedding coloring pages and activities that you can print out and put in the bag. Include construction paper for the kids to draw a picture for the bride and groom. A few things to remember: stay away from markers or anything that can make a mess or stain fancy clothes. Also, be sure to label each bag with the kid's names and put the same number of items in each bag. This will (hopefully) eliminate any fighting.

For older kids/teens, give them an "older version" of the activity bag. Create a scavenger hunt list and give them a disposable camera or Polaroid camera. Add things like, "dress", "flowers", "family", "dancing", and "cake" to the list and see what the kids capture on their camera. You can also include packs of cards, Sudoku, or crossword games.

Crafts
Depending on your venue this may or may not be doable. Set up a craft area for the kids for a short time during the reception. Stock the area with foam stickers and let the little ones decorate crowns, cups, etc. Beads, yarn, and gimp are a fun activity for older kids. If you have access to an outdoor area, sand art is a fun activity for young kids. You might need to designate an older child or adult to supervise this area for a portion of your reception.

Food
Ask your venue to have some kid-friendly appetizers during cocktail hour. Kids love pigs-in-a-blanket and mini pizza. Also, be sure to order kid-friendly dinner entrees. Spaghetti and meatballs, grilled cheese, and chicken nuggets and french fries will go over much better than Chicken Florentine. A fun idea for dessert is to give each child a sugar cookie or unfrosted cupcake. Give each kid a small bowl of frosting and put an assortment of candies on the table so the kids can decorate their own cookie or cupcake. This might be a little messy so be sure to include a plastic or paper apron.

Kids Room
If your budget allows and your venue can provide an additional space, designate a separate kid's room for your little guests. You can stock this room with fun games and activities. Twister, board games or video games would be a great asset to these rooms. See if you can set up a TV to play movies. Provide popcorn and snacks for a fun movie night. A kid's room will need to have adult supervision for the evening.

Outdoor Activities
If you have access to an outdoor space, let the kids play outside! Set up kid friendly games like jump rope, hula hoops, basketballs, and sidewalk chalk. This is a great way to occupy kids before it gets too late or dark outside.

Music
Ask your DJ or band to play some kids songs during the salad course of your dinner. Kids love to dance and will love that they have the dance floor to themselves. It will also tire them out.

Hire Professionals
Finally, if you plan on having a lot of children at your wedding, it might be a good idea to hire a babysitter to watch the kids. Have them supervise the craft table or play games with the kids. They can organize relay races outside, play different games, and help kids with crafts. Another idea is to hire a children's entertainer. Have a face painter, balloon artist, or magician come to a portion of the reception. These entertainers will keep your little guests occupied and entertained. If you are having a photo booth, have a "kids only" time during the cocktail hour. Let them play with the fun props and take silly photos. Be sure to have the photographer supervise.

Hopefully some of these will entertain the younger guests invited to your wedding. Just arranging something for the younger guests will be a special treat for them. Their parents will thank you!

Leslie and Aaron's Wedding

Leslie and Aaron were married in August in Delaware in a touching and personal ceremony in front of their closest friends and family. We were so excited to be asked to be a part of this wedding since Erin's friend and jeweler, Christine, of A Gem For You, is the bride's sister! We created their invitations to match their purple and green color scheme and we followed the theme throughout all of their day of stationery. Leslie's family set up paper lanterns in the trees around the ceremony location and it really added a special touch to the lush box garden. We placed a hosta leaf on each seat for guests to use as fans. On top of the leaves, we placed stones that were used in the wishing stone ceremony. The couple's adorable daughter acted as flower girl and fell asleep right before the ceremony so her dad carried her in- it was a cute little moment! Leslie walked down the aisle in a beautiful bridal gown from Anastasia's Bridal in Delaware. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a delicious cocktail hour. Escort cards were placed in wine corks to match the wine theme of the reception. All of the tables were named after the couple's favorite wines and they even used old bottles of each wine as table numbers! Leslie was very hands on when it came to designing the decor and details of her wedding. Each table was topped with 6 ribbons that were laid next to, and on top of each other to make a design that she had seen done by Martha Stewart. The centerpieces were a mix of urns filled with manzanita branches with lush purple and green clusters of flowers and low arrangements that featured lots of green, white, and purple flowers. The fields around the tent were decorated with mason jars filled with candles and as the sun set, it looked like a dream! A perfect day from start to finish!

Congratulations Leslie and Aaron!
