Featured Vendor Friday

Your first dance a married couple is an important moment on your wedding day. If you don't think you're a great dancer or you want your dance choreographed, today's Featured Vendor is one that you will definitely want to contact!

Name of Company: Rubi First Dance

Contact Information/Website/etc: Rubi Wiswall rubi@rubifirstdance.com/610.505.8504/www.rubifirstdance.com

Services Offered: Dance lessons for the wedding day: bride and groom, parent/child, bridal party etc.

Locations that you cover: Philadelphia and surrounding areas

When was your business established?: 2008

How did you get involved in events?: A few of my friends asked me to teach them how to dance when they were engaged, so I thought it might be a good business idea to help couples feel comfortable during their first dance. I started off very small, and grew mostly by word of mouth. Now I'm teaching on a regular basis and am thrilled!

What is your favorite type of event to do?: I am dying to choreograph a bridal party dance! But in general I love watching a couple get past the 'learning stage' and relax into dancing with each other...I feel so lucky to get to witness love on a regular basis.

What do you look forward to most on the event date?: I have been invited to a few of my couples' weddings to view the dance- it's a thrill to see the hard work pay off!

What is the price range for your service?: $75 per session

Do you run any specials?: Sometimes I offer Facebook specials- so "like" my page to keep in touch! www.facebook.com/rfdance

Anything else you'd like to share?: I am planning my first 'salsa night for couples' coming this fall- some of my couples learn that they love to dance through my classes, so I figured I could help cultivate that love and share my passion with others! On these Salsa nights, I will be teaching a lesson breaking down beginner salsa steps, and then we'll all go out dancing in the city! Contact me for more information if you are interested.

This week's Featured Vendor is one of our favorite makeup artists, Emily from Cheekadee! Check out the questionnaire to get the scoop on her company.

Name of Company: Cheekadee Makeup Artists

Contact Information/Website/etc.: www.cheekadee.com

Services Offered: Makeup!

Locations that you cover: The entire Tri-State Area; including PA, NJ and DE. Also, the Jersey Shore!

When was your business established?: I have been doing makeup professionally for over 20 years, but I started Cheekadee about 5 years ago.

How did you get involved in events?: I was hooked from the first time I did a wedding. It sort of snowballed...First year I did 1, second year 2 and last year Cheekadee did 105 weddings.

What is your favorite type of event to do?: Weddings, for sure! I am a sucker for a girl in a dress ;)

Where is your favorite venue to work?: I love that Philadelphia is so rich in history. Places like Pen Ryn Mansion and Cairnwood Estate are especially pretty. But, perhaps my favorite The Lippincott House on Locust Street in Center City. It is a B&B that dates back to the 18th century. From the outside, you have no idea how magnificent it is! The wallpaper, the decor and the inn keeper is a doll!

What do you look forward to most on the event date?:

Absolutely without a doubt, seeing the bride in her gown. Witnessing the beauty of everything coming together with hair, makeup, jewelry, etc. is just magical. The power of someone lighting up a room with her smile, just makes it all worthwhile.

Tell us about the best event you've worked:

Since I am typically gone before all of the fun happens, I get to see the wedding from a different angle, which is interesting. I have had so many wonderful experiences with brides and their families. I can tell you the things I remember the most are the family relationships and dynamics. The things that get me in the throat are...sisters. I have always wanted one, and when I see brides and their sisters laughing and crying, it makes me a little jealous. But, so so happy that I am able to share in their day! The things that make me incredibly sad are when important family members are missing, such as a parent or a sibling. Moral is- do not take what you have for granted!

How do you feel about working with wedding coordinators?:

Wedding coordinators, like Proud to Plan, make my job so much easier. When I am working with Erin or Lisa, or any of the PTP girls, I know that an event is going to go smoothly. I have seen them save the day on more than one occasion! Plus, they are so much fun to work with!

What is the price range for your services?:

Our prices are very reasonable for what we offer. Our services for the bride start at $195 (including the trial). We have a minimum of 4 people who we will travel for and they are an additional $75 each. We travel to all Center City locations for free.

Do you run any specials?:

We are planning all sorts of exciting projects for the off season; makeup lessons and parties. Please contact us if you are interested.

Thanks for filling out our questionnaire, Emily! Below you can see a few of our brides that used Cheekadee on their wedding day.

We've spoken before about how important we think a videographer is and Blossom Productions is one of our favorite companies to work with! Read on below to find out more about their company.

Name of Company: Blossom Productions

Contact Information/Website/etc:   info@blossomproductions.com
www.blossomproductions.com Studio #: 215-825-5066

Services Offered: High Definition Video & 8mm Film for weddings, social and corporate events.

Locations that you cover: Philadelphia and Mid-Atlantic region as well as destination weddings.

When was your business established?: 2007

How did you get involved in events?: I produced a “A Wedding Story” on TLC prior to starting Blossom Productions. If we were going to start a video production company specializing in events, it made sense to start  by preserving weddings for couples.

What is your favorite type of event to do?: Weddings.

Where is your favorite venue to work?: Congress Hall-Cape May, NJ.

What do you look forward to most on the event date?: The moment our couples see each other for the first time on their wedding day is priceless-whether it’s for the ceremony or the “first look”. Planning a wedding is full of highs and lows and when the moment finally arrives, it’s such a reality-check for the couple. I find myself smiling behind the lens while quietly rejoicing along with them!

Tell us about the best event you’ve worked: Chrissy and Joe’s Wedding in Cape May was the best wedding we’ve ever filmed (on video and super 8). Beautiful location, meaningful touches, happy family and friends, overseen by talented wedding coordinators but most importantly- a sweet, very much in love couple who tied the knot!

How do you feel about working with wedding coordinators?: We look forward to working with wedding coordinators. We know the wedding schedule and many details of the day will be meticulously managed in order to ensure the day goes as planned for the couple, their guests and the wedding professionals onsite.

What is the price range for your services?:  $3300-5000

Anything else you’d like to share?:  Right now, the quality and creativity going into the production of wedding filmmaking is evolving by the second (gone are the days of cheesy, outdated impersonal “videos”).  Here to stay-colorful, contemporary and sophisticated produced wedding films-with heart and personality. We love what we do and we love working with couples who truly understand that the value of their wedding film goes up the minute that their wedding day is over…

Thanks Alicia! Alicia also sent us a highlight film from a wedding at Congress Hall in Cape May. Enjoy!

Erin and I had the pleasure to attend this year's Cairnwood Estate Gala in late March. I wanted to show you all some photos from the gala- taken by one of our favorites, Love Shack Photo! While at the same time, featuring Cairnwood as one of our favorite venues! We are lucky enough to be on their preferred planner list. If we could work their every weekend, we would!! The estate itself is absolutely breathtaking and the grounds surrounding are beautiful as well.
After being checked in, we walked through this stunning arch created by Beautiful Blooms. It looked so whimsical and fit in perfectly with the Estate.
We made our way down the tent to see the wonderful items up for auction. The tent and estate were uplit by Synergetic Sound and Lighting. It was completely transformed!
The catering in the tent was provided by Sage Catering. They had a great spread of food, as always!!

We we got into the Estate, we saw this gorgeous food display by Feastivities Catering, along with the florals done by Offshoots! My favorite floral display that they did, was on the mantle. It was covered in moss and had flower filled tea cups hanging down!

There were so many goodies and snacks everywhere! These cupcakes, provided by Whipped Bakeshop, were delicious!
And lastly, a cute picture of me and Erin! We were so happy to sponsor a bar at the gala alongside of great professionals in our area. A few other shout outs to I Do Wedding Consulting and The Queen of Hearts Wedding Consulting for also sponsoring bars and Angela Malicki Events, for providing such fabulous gift boxes!
And here are a few images of some of our favorite Cairnwood couples!

Featured Vendor Friday

This week's Featured Vendor Friday is a two-fer! Read on below to learn about Pete Malone's photography, 217 Photography, and videography, First Floor Films, businesses!

Name of Company: 217 Photography and First Floor Films

Contact Information/Website/etc.: www.217photo.com | www.firstfloorfilms.com

Services Offered: Photography, Videography and Super-8 film making

Locations that you cover: Philadelphia area, New Jersey, Delaware and NYC area

When was your business established?: First Floor Films was established in 2004 in SF, CA. And 217 Photography was established here in Philadelphia in 2009.

How did you get involved in events?: I started shooting wedding videos in San Fransisco after several years working as a video editor for a cable television station. A friend needed someone to shoot her wedding at a vineyard in Napa. After the experience of shooting a celebration like that in a location like that I was hooked. After moving back to Philadelphia, I reconnected with some old friends who were in the business on the photography end. I shot for about a year mainly as an assistant before opening up 217 Photography.

What is your favorite type of event to do?: Weddings are my favorite type of event to do. Everyone brings their A game to a wedding and I love being able to capture that. People looking, acting and partying as best as they can makes for great photos and videos. And it may sound corny, but I really do love creating these images for each of my clients almost as gifts for them. Because often times our couples become friends after spending the better part of a year working with them in many aspects leading up to and after the wedding day.

Where is your favorite venue to work?: My favorite venue hands down is Congress Hall in Cape May, NJ. It is such a unique looking building inside and out. And I love the blue walls and checkerboard floor of the ballroom. Plus it's right on the beach...that can't be beat.

What do you look forward to most on the event date?: On a wedding day, I look forward to capturing real emotions between a bride and a groom as well as those real emotions shared between family members. Some of my favorite images aren't of an amazing location with perfect light on a perfect day, rather they are the shots that may not be framed perfectly but that were absolutely 100% real. Moments captured like a father wiping away a tear as his son thanks him in front of 300 guests for all that his dad has done in raising him throughout his life. Or capturing the moment when a mother/son dance becomes an entire family dance with all of the groom's sisters surrounding and hugging him because his mother had passed away shortly before the wedding day. Capturing that moment on video for a couple to see and hear for years and years to come is something that I'm very, very happy to be able to do.

Tell us about the best event you've worked: It would be hard for me to choose THE BEST event that I have ever shot. But I always feel very good about a wedding when I can come home with the feeling that I was really a part of the day. I am the happiest when I work an event where the families are very open, welcoming and loving and those emotions envelope everyone and everything associated with the day. It's really something special to share in a day like that not only as a photographer or videographer who may be excited to shoot and share great footage, but simply being surrounded by that love and happiness makes me feel as though I was really a part of something good. And it makes me feel good about my own family and loved ones. I will often times think of my wife and our family during some of the more emotional weddings and events and I'm happy for that because it helps me feel more grateful for them and for my own life.

How do you feel about working with wedding coordinators?: I ALWAYS recommend that my couples look into hiring a wedding coordinator. If not for full on "stress free" coordination, then at least for day of coordination. Erin and her team can often times be the single determining factor between a smooth running wedding where the bride and groom can relax and enjoy their day and a stressful day that seems to run away from a couple. Plus Erin and the ladies of Proud to Plan always help make my day easier when they're on site...I like that.

A wedding coordinator will help keep your day on schedule, they will help with any unforeseen issues that may arise on the wedding day and most importantly...the wedding coordinator will help the couples to feel that they can simply enjoy their own wedding day without having to worry about doing anything other than getting married and having fun doing it!

What is the price range for your services?: The package prices for 217 Photography run from $3,200-$6,700. The package prices for First Floor Films run from $1,200-$5,500.

Do you run any specials?: We always offer 10% discount from our First Floor Films packages when a couple books a 217 Photography package.

Anything else you'd like to share?: My wife, Dawn and I, actually hired Erin as our day of coordinator for our own July, 2008 wedding and we have said time and time again how Erin was THE BEST money that we spent for the entire wedding. I have worked with several wedding coordinators on both coasts as a vendor so to choose Proud to Plan as the Coordinator for my own wedding speaks volumes about the level of respect and confidence I have in Erin and Proud to Plan!

Thanks for sending us the information Pete! Here are some sample pictures that Pete also sent to us, along with a Super-8 trailer! Enjoy!!
