Hair Inspiration for Short Haired Brides

There are a ton of hairstyles for brides with long locks. However, having short hair, may make you feel limited in your options. While that may be slightly true, there are still a great amount of options out there! Here are some ideas and inspirations for brides with short hair.

Keep It Simple
Keep your style simple and natural for your big day.

If you have straight hair, you can try something like this:

If your hair has more of a wave or curl, try something like this:

Up Do's
If your hair is long enough to pull up into an up-do, try one of these hairstyles.

Here is a half-up, half-down hairstyle. It's held in place by bobby pins but you could use a pretty barrette as well.

Hairstyle Inspiration for Long Haired Brides

Your wedding hairstyle is an important part of your big day, complementing your dress and your theme. Having long hair gives you so many options for your big day do!

Here are some ideas for long hairstyles and some thoughts to incorporate your theme and personality into your wedding hair.

One of my favorite weddings I have worked was for Danielle and Chris in Long Beach Island. They had a ceremony on the beach and Danielle had her hair half up, half down, fashioned with long curls. This was perfect for their outdoor beachside ceremony.

When it was time for the reception, Danielle changed her hair to a beautiful up do. Taking advantage of both the long curls and a more reserved up do.

Side curls are also beautiful and romantic for a wedding look and this is one of my personal favorites.

Another perfect idea, is to incorporate part of your theme into your hairstyle. Like our bride Katie did with a flower! This adds a pop of color to your look and personally incorporates your theme.

The classic French twist is also always a favorite for up do's. Here is one with a little twist and personality on it. This hairstyle goes great with a bird cage veil as well.

If you are looking for more of an elaborate up do, try this one. Your long locks allow this beautiful hairstyle creation to be set.

Long hair is great for up do's, but it can also create a very romantic style if left down as well. Hair accessories like clips or combs can bring out the detail in your dress with rhinestones, pearls, or lace. This is a great detail to incorporate in your hair.

When considering leaving your hair down, think about if your hair curls easily or holds well. This may have a part in deciding on and up do instead, so you don't have to worry about losing the curls and your hair falling flat.

A good compromise, might be like what our bride Danielle did, having two hairstyles for the day. Long flowing curls during the ceremony and a beautiful up do for the reception. (For my own dream wedding, I will be taking this approach as well).

Also, don't forget to have a trial run or two before your big day so the stylist knows exactly what you expect and how to do it.

You will be beautiful on your wedding day, and your hairstyle will only add to your beauty!

Bridal Hairstyles

As a bride, your decision on a hairstyle for your wedding day is just as important as the dress. There are so many styles and choices; an up-do, all down, half up, loose and flowy, tight and formal, etc. It all depends on the look that you want to portray.

As a bridesmaid, unless the bride has a specific hairstyle in mind, you will want a hairstyle that fits with the theme of the wedding. For example, if it is a formal wedding, you might want to go with a fancier up-do. For a more casual wedding, a half up loose curled style would look nice. Also, keep in mind the type of dress you are wearing. A formal gown looks best with a fancier hairstyle.

Check out the internet and magazines for inspiration when you are thinking about your hairstyle. Bring these pictures to your hair stylist, so she understands what you are looking for. Also, keep in mind your veil or headpiece that you are plan on wearing.

I spoke with Philadelphia area hair stylist, Meghan Cahill, from Hair by Meghan, to get some tips from a pro!

1. Have you seen any bride/bridesmaids hairstyles that are popular this past year (up-do's, braids, curls)?
The most popular styles this year, I would say, is the loose side bun and it is also one of my favorites.

2. Do you recommend a hair trial?
I definitely recommend a hair trial. It gives the bride a chance to meet who she will be working with the day of and explore options on how she wants to wear her hair.

3. How should I have my hair the day of the wedding before getting it styled (clean, dirty, curled, straight)?
I always tell my bride it is up to them. I know a lot of stylists like to work with "dirty hair" but I like to tell my bride she can shower and wash her hair in the morning and I can always dirty it up with lots of products.

4. Any advice for brides when choosing a hairstyle?
I know there are a lot of trendy looks out there but I would say go for the classics. Half-up, low bun, loose curls pulled back; these are all looks that will be in style when you are looking back at your pictures in 10 years.

A few more tips to keep in mind to get your hair ready for the big day:
-If you are the bride, be sure to schedule a hair trial so you can try out your wedding do before the wedding day.
-Don't change your hair color right before the wedding. Try it out a few months prior. If you don't like the new color, there is still time to change it back before the wedding. Same with drastic cuts, don't try out a new style or bangs the week before your wedding.
-Trim your hair 2 weeks prior to the wedding day.
-If you color/highlight your hair, try to do this 2 weeks before the wedding.

Must Have Monday

Today's Must Have is a great hairstyle! It is definitely something that you may not think of right away; the venue, photographer and dress seem to trump the little details at the beginning. But once those things are set in place you should put some thought into your wedding day hairstyle. Do you want a super sleek look? Simple and chic or casual and ethereal? Up? Down? If you don't have a hair stylist in mind, ask your friends that have recently been married or have been in weddings, or your wedding planner, for recommendations. Try googling for images of hair styles or even look at wedding photographers websites for inspirations! Here are a few that I found on Style Me Pretty's Pinterest page. Whatever style you choose, be sure to have a trial (or 2!) to see exactly what it will look like on you!
